Within the <latin-1></latin-1> element, two ASCII characters are used to write each Latin-1 character.

Within this element, ASCII characters are also written with two-character codes, via the addition of an underscore.
Examples:
- "a" becomes "a_"
- Español is written as E_s_p_a_n~o_l_
Exception: A space is written with two spaces.
